Energy Deflected

redundant chimney pots

………………………………….glitter of photovoltaic

a quiet azalea stutters gently

.

red petals fall

                        coughing beyond the cluttered aerials

…………………………her Hybrid Yaris battery starts up quiet

…………………lithium cobalt cadmium graphite

pigeon homes in on the lead hopper

………………………………clock strikes eleven

two planes drone over en route to Heathrow

………………………………..breathe carefully

a cirrussed sky covers the high sycamore

…………….his pollarded fists shake in the east wind

……………………leaf buds cry softly

……………the bus grinds to a halt

……………………………….air gives up.

Silence

how do you talk about silence

a long pause

it’s a space cushioned in silk

a sofa stretching to sky

an emptying

morphing to

where

ear plugs like pliers twist out noise

noise is the weeds in the garden of sound

when vibrations hit 20k a second you will hear silence

an absolute

stillness

as the gases hold the magic taut

and my breath sinks into my grounded soles

that evening on the pavement in New Orleans

when Satchmo stopped

the night grew only a trumpet’s perfect sphere

of silence
