Point of Origin

When grief came to me
It came to me as a journey.
More than anything, its presence was bodily.

When in its midst its endlessness
Defined it – a scale of oceans,
Or deep space. I am cut loose

From land and adrift
Within this distance from shore; I feel the lift
In skiff of tide and weight.

My point of origin distancing
From me, and through it, somehow, a becoming
Aware of it through furtherance emerges. No mooring

Out here. When grief came to me it came
As an unplugging; it came from
A returning and a departing in tandem.
